Nitrifying Bioreactors for Recirculating Aquaculture Systems

Welcome to Oriental Aquamarine Biotech Website

Oriental Aquamarine Biotech (India) P Ltd offers a patented NITRIFYING BIOREACTOR TECHNOLOGY FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF RECIRCULATING AQUACULTURE SYSTEMS.

The Nitrifying Bioreactors continuously and effectively transform ammonia to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate, and bring down their residual level near to zero.

Nitrifying Bioreactor technology facilitates management of water quality in a hatchery with maximum consistency, and least incidence of diseases and offers reef quality oligotrophic water.

Recirculating larval production systems, which could be developed by incorporating this technology, totally eliminates the application of chemical disinfectants, antibiotic and other chemotherapeutic agents, facilitating organic seed production in its truest form.

Nitrifying BIOREACTOR Technology - Benefits

The recirculating aquaculture production system developed with the Nitrifying Bioreactor Technology on implementation in a hatchery, will convert the hatchery from an open larval system to a biosecure-closed system with recirculation of water. This has the following benefits:

  • Substantial reduction in water intake and least discharge
  • Improved feed conversion rate
  • Stable, consistent water quality and least physiological disturbance to larvae
  • Minimum stress to the animal and least incidence of diseases
  • User friendliness and better control over the system
  • Significantly higher survival rate
  • Stable shrimp/prawn maturation system with steady supply of nauplii
  • Eliminates application of chemical disinfectants, antibiotics and other chemotherapeutic agents - facilitate organic seed production

BIOREACTORS

Two categories of bioreactors are offered to satisfy the requirements of recirculation aquaculture seed production system:

In-Situ Stringed Bed Suspended Bioreactor (SBSBR)
In-Situ Stringed Bed Suspended Bioreactor (SBSBR)

This Bioreactor is used for removal of dissolved Ammonia and in situ Nitrification of water on the surface of the tanks.

Ex-Site Oacked Bed Bioreactor
Ex-Situ Packed Bed
Bioreactor (PBBR)
  • Establishment of Recirculating Aquaculture systems for maturation and brood stock maintenance
  • Establishment of Recirculating Aquaculture systems for larval production
  • Nitrification and ammonia removal from the incoming water from sea
  • Ammonia removal, Spent water treatment and reuse

Both are bio film reactors – with indigenously developed nitrifying consortia immobilized on cartridges

Nitrifying bioreactors can be used in any marine/brackish water seed production systems including those of Prawn, Shrimp, finfishes, Molluscs etc., and also in ornamental fish culture systems.
